ASP´s new rules: are the surfers taking part of their future?

Owen Right, 2014 ASP wildcard

As we´re only about a few days from ZoSea´s new ASP world tour in 2014, i´ve noticed that one of this year´s  wildcard, Owen Wright, was granted with a very high seed: 13th.

This new rule creates a very easier way to Owen in 2014, as he´s gonna face lower seeds in his event heats.

Is that fair?? I know, Owen had a big injury last year (wasn´t not the only, by the way, but i truly think he deserves 100% the wildcard). But what about other guys who fought the whole year for a good ranking placement? They´re just put below O. Right and will have a harder task in 2014.

I even understand the ideia of giving to the wildcard a seed closer to his last year seed. But things change a lot in surfing, and Owen´s 10th place in 2012 couldn´t be the same in 2013. But he was gifted anyways.

Question: rules like that are being discussed with the surfers? Or ASP´s just throwing decisions as they want? More: as Kieren Perrow as Comissioner, how independent or biased are gonna be his calls? Not here to say that K.P .is a biased guy. My point is: how representative is international surfing being on ASP right now?

If ASP is an ASSOCIATION of professional surfers, some decisions shouldn´t be taken in group mode?

I know, surfing as a sport and a business is living in hard times, but a few years ago, surfers seemed to have at least more participation in ASP´s calls.

Am i too naive? Can somebody tell me how ASP´s black box is working right now?

Bad behavior is from everywhere?

Hi, guys! I got tired of reading in online internacional forums how hassler and claimers brazilian competitors are.

Americans and Australians surfers don´t waste one single opportunity to yell about how aggressive surfers like Adriano de Sousa, Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo surf in ASP heats (just to name the most quoted).

Well, is that really true?? Not in my opinion! Brazilians are very competitive surfers, but they are good sportsmen. But international media IS really biased about them.

Let´s show some great examples of how surfers worldwide can be very bad boys in their heats?

Ozzie Stuart Kennedy trying to suffocate little Kainoa Igarashi in a heat in Australia in 2014!! No comments about that in international media. But if the choker was a brazilian surfer??  What an international drama, woudn´t be???

And about hassling?? Well, Dingo Morrison (AUS again) is well known for his competitive acting:

Here, Dingo pulling a Hobgood leash in Pipeline!

Hassling?? Don´t you know the Goldie crowds, mate??

Surf love in Duranbah

CJ is another one who´s not affraid of been aggressive and yell loud in heats

Aggression in the midle of a heat, Australia

Joel Parko in Portugal

As long as the media AND online surfers keep the focus in how "aggressive" brazilian competitors are, surfing world will get the same old image!! Absolutely unfair with the new great generation of brazilian surfers around ASP.

Why not to show things  in surfing how they really are? The whlole frame?? Let´s stop bias and prejudice and make our sport more democratic and free for everybody!

ASP 2014 (ZoSea): the good old problems remain?

Well,

we´ve been waiting for a few months for the "new" ASP to arrive.

After acquiring  the whole ASP for free, ZoSea (read Kelly Slater), announces its first news for 2014.

- A new commentators team (more or less the same), not too many problems on that.

- It seems that head judge Richie Porta continues. (Great, great news for guys like  Joel Parko and Julian Wilson: improved scores on the way, boys!!!)

Great news for Parko!! Porta is still there!

- A new fresh air of liberty seemed appear.... Lewis Samuels with his Power Rankings on ASP´s new website??? Nice!!

Where´s Lewis on ASP´s  surfing media??

NEW ASP`S FIASCO #1:
Well, not so nice, as in less than 48 hours after his first taste on ASP, Lewis page just disappeared.... ANd his presence on ASP 2014 is gone too!! What The fuck??? It seems that our brand new ASP has some old bad habits still very present on board.

First ASP´s censored post of the year!!

ASP guys, didn´t you know Lewis before?? That guy is a truth teller!! If ASP only wanna have some sugar boys writing sugar content, why did you asked for him??

In our digital world, people need and like more and more engagement, the real deal, and not uninteresting content made to dumb people. Watch out, Terry H. and K.S.

We´´ll be watching closely!!

Real Surfing is on!

Hey, boys!! This is my first post.

As we get constantly censored in websites like Surfline.com and SurferMag, i decided to create a little blog where we can post stuff the ASP and the media usually don´t have balls to.

Let´s talk about surfing!!!
